The tri count after creating joints for the model to be rigged jumped up a little over 2050 and then after as much optimising as I think I could do I couldn't get it back down under 2000. So I decided to change the weapon to a more tri friendly weapon. A two handed broad sword. It's now at 1996 tris and I think I like the look of the sword more than the mace.
